Found this one out of the blue. I have driven past this little corner bakery for as long as I can remember so I don't know how recent they went into business. I stopped in to grab some little pastry and a cup of coffee just to try the place out. Well as I seem to do often I picked several things out of their front case. My first target was a Chocolate Croissant which was buttery and flaky while filled with the bittersweet dark chocolate. Then off to a key lime tart filled with creamy flavour. Finishing the visit with a well made cappuccino. Since my initial visit. I have been back twice. Once to custom order a cake that the staff worked extra hard on and delivered not only a delicious cake but one that looked too good to eat. Although is was eaten! My latest involved a Peroki - Meat, Potato, & Mushroom stuffed pastry which was fantastic! I also picked up a chocolate and peanut butter macroon cookie.

Cute little bakery. They also serve lunch and breakfast, but only have a couple of tables to sit at. I buy there desserts to take home to my lover. He loves the brownies and the honey cake. I would give it 5 stars if the people that worked their weren't so awkward. I can't explain it...either way, I would recommend visiting and trying a sweet treat. They also do cakes that look pretty cool.

I have just finally found this place and am hooked. My first visit was for some desserts for my wife and my movie night - a mousse cake, and a brownie. Both were very good, but not quite great. The brownie was the winner, and I would get it again in a heartbeat. The mousse cake was okay, but I was ultimately disappointed. I went back for a loaf of bread, and showed up 5 minutes after closing. Nevertheless, they still seemed happy to help, and I picked up a good sized loaf of Italian bread for $3.50. Day old loaves were $1.50. This bread was incredible...it smelled so damn good, and tasted even better. For the price, it's the best bread in JoCo. I'll try some other desserts I am sure, but this is now going to be my go-to place for bread when I don't feel like leaving the area near my house (i.e. - I don't want to go all the way to KCMO for Fervere). They seemed to have a decent bread selection at good prices. Friendly people too.

Pop in on a Friday for a gorgeous loaf of challah bread for the best french toast you've ever made. The sourdough is the best I've found in the metro, the hubs is hooked. And the pastries! Oh, man. I can't resist. They are all. so. good.

I just wanted to say that I ordered a birthday cake from Irinas for my daughter's birthday. The cake was moist , made the same day we picked up and we received such professional service. My family loves the different danishes and croissants there. I would definitely recommend!

Uh, oh, I'm in trouble! I'm supposed to be losing weight and now Irina's Gourmet Bakery has opened up just a few blocks from me to sabotage my efforts! Located at the NW corner of 119th and Quivira, Irina's belongs to a woman who previously had a shop but then closed to concentrate on special order cakes, as I understand it. Now she's reopened a retail bakery on this busy corner in Overland Park. The somewhat small space has enough room for a kitchen, a display case and a few tables. The display case was well-stocked with numerous temptations, including whole cakes (in sensibly smaller sizes for bringing home) and individual pastries and tarts. I saw tiramisu squares, key lime tartlets, mille-feuilles (Napoleons), berry tartlets, cheesecake, etc. The shop just opened, but I assume some of the most popular items will be regular offerings while other changing specialties will offer variety. Today I sampled an almond-raspberry slice. On the plate it looked a bit skimpy, but I shouldn't have feared. It was one of those European treats that's small but deadly! According to Irina, it's made entirely of almonds, which I assume refers to the thin cake layers covered in a bit of raspberry preserves and a delicious buttercream, all topped with a chocolate glaze. The whole made up a rich, dense and altogether yummy treat! The slice wasn't tooth-achingly sweet -- just sweet enough to be dessert without overwhelming the other flavors. With a generous cup of coffee, this Mittel-European afternoon break was less than $5!!! You can see why I'm trouble! Being so close, and at those prices, I'll be at Irina's all the time! Except for Andre's and Natasha's, Kansas City has had something of a void in the fine patisserie category. Irina's helps meet the need very satisfactorily in JoCo. And it's encouraging to see that another new patisserie has opened on 39th Street in town -- another place to check out soon! But if you're out in Planet Suburbia, Irina's will be hard to beat for delicacies to take home, or to enjoy in the shop for a mid-morning or afternoon break, just like in the civilized world! P.S. You can like Irina's on Facebook. Then you'll get periodic photos of her latest creations, especially cakes, which she apparently likes to decorate creatively. She's got some photos up of some of her wedding cakes, which look wonderful! I don't know what she uses for the cake itself. I assume you can choose the type of cake you want. If it were for me, I'd ask for the almond-raspberry slice to be made as a cake! It'll be nothing like the standard rather boring white or yellow cake, and utterly delicious. Your guests will swoon and your wedding will live long in their memories as the place they had that superb cake!

My wife and I decided to go to Irina's for breakfast due to the reviews. We were extremely disappointed. The cinnamon roll we got was dry, over cooked, and tasted like the Pillsbury cinnamon rolls out of the can. We also got a pastry with egg and bacon inside which was bland and tasteless. We didn't see anything gourmet about this bakery.

Great addition to the area! Haven't tried everything yet, but in time I will. Large assortment of great sweet treats that are simply amazing. A must try!

I walked in to Irina's to order a cake for my sister in laws baby shower--not really knowing exactly what I wanted. Irina was super patient and directed me towards what would be the best/easiest/most cost effective. She handed me her ipad to look at pictures as well as another album full of pictures. I found a picture of what I loved, chose the two flavors I wanted--strawberry and white chocolate--and she took it from there. When I went to pick the cake up it was absolutely beautiful! Everyone at the shower commented on how pretty it was. The most convincing reason I can give anyone to give Irina's a shot is that, after everyone had eaten their cake, people started coming back for more. Out of the 35 people we had there, at least half of the people asked where I had the cake made and said that it was one of the best cakes they had ever eaten. And to top that off, I don't really eat/like cake--but I had two pieces at the shower and couldn't help but to have a little more later that evening. I will ALWAYS use Irina's from now on!

One of my favorite things about visiting Europe is the availability of great pastries. Frankly, in Europe, they are everywhere, but in Kansas this is not the case. The good news for me is that Irina's has opened up just a couple of miles from my home...and this bakery has the European styles pastries that I crave. Apricot, Raspberry, Cherry Danish all with Cream Cheese...are perfect every time. With a flakey pastry base...and tangy/sweet fillings...you just can't beat it. that's not all...Irina's has Cinnamon rolls, Chocolate Croissants, Turnovers...and lot's more. Each item as delicious as you crave. Occasionally, there will be Piroshki made from meat, potatoes, an mushrooms...or apples and raspberry...and they will still be warm. SO DELICIOUS. The tarts and cakes are delicious too...especially the key lime tart and the "Log" which was a work of art covered in chocolate and loaded with delicious fillings and moist cake. A true "mom and pop" establishment, Irina and Nikolai make you feel like family. So if you go there, don't hesitate to ask for something special if you need it...they would be upset if you didn't. They are GREAT people...and I am so glad to have them and their amazing pastries in the neighbor hood.
